HALLOWEEN
Humans tend to become more superstitious during Halloween time. Perhaps it's the thoughts of spirits or scary movies on TV. Much of what makes humans tense at Halloween are just myths. And there are more to debunk all the time. Luckily, cats are more pragmatic than humans. For every myth there is an explanation that we can offer. Be warned, you may freak out if you read this and something happens to you. Just keep the cat explanation close at hand.
MYTH: You will have bad luck if you hear three hoots of an owl.
FACT: It was probably the three shots of hooch that caused it.
MYTH: You will have bad luck if you see the new moon over your left shoulder
FACT: You will have worse luck if you see your own moon in the mirror.
MYTH: You will have bad luck if you hear a rooster crow at night.
FACT: Not nearly as bad as too much Sheryl Crowe at night.
MYTH: You will have bad luck if you get out of bed left foot first
FACT: Cats never get out of bed.
MYTH: If you sing before breakfast, you will cry before dinner.
FACT: They are happy tears if it's our favorite food.
MYTH: You will have bad luck if you see a white cat
FACT: James Bond never died. But Blofeld did. Let’s table this one.
MYTH: You will have good luck if you sleep facing south.
FACT: Cats sleep so twisted up at least one part of them is facing south. Just in case.
MYTH: You will have good luck if the top of your head has an itch.
FACT: It's why we are always trying to get humans to scratch us. Maybe some of that luck will rub off on you.
MYTH: You will have good luck if a robin flies into your house.
FACT: Remember it was probably a cat that brought it in to begin with.
MYTH: You will have good luck if you sneeze three times before breakfast.
FACT: It used to be good luck until Swine Flu.
MYTH: You will have good luck if you put on a dress inside out.
FACT: It's good luck because no one will see the cat hairs from me sleeping on it.
MYTH: It's good luck if you hear a cat sneeze.
FACT: Unless you happen to be rubbing noses with your cat at the time.
MYTH: If a bird flies into the window of a sick person, it means the person will die soon.
FACT: That person may die because I will be jumping all over him trying to catch the bird.
MYTH: If a bird flies into your house, it means someone has died.
FACT: Let's see. 10 billion people in the world...could it be, mmm, just a coincidence? Nooooo…guess not.
MYTH: Hearing footsteps behind you and looking back means you are in danger.
FACT: Depends on what part of town you are in.
MYTH: Dreaming of a white bird means you will die soon.
FACT: Then I must have died long ago.
Happy Halloween.
